Hello and thank you for visiting my website. My name is Alex and I am an experienced, qualified, and approachable psychotherapist providing therapy and support to individual adults from a tranquil, yet easily accessible, location near Rickmansworth.
I have been working with a diverse range of people and issues and for over 15 years. As a fully qualified psychotherapist and supervisor I am a member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and adhere to their code of ethics. I am also a training therapist and tutor with the Association of Group and Individual Psychotherapists. (AGIP)
Why am I suffering?
A question that has been asked for thousands of years. But does your suffering have a meaning and what can you learn from it? As your psychotherapist my role is to help you examine and explore your life and struggles and by understanding them be in a better place to make meaningful decisions about your future. I cannot make decisions for you but can offer to be alongside as you make your own choices.
I offer a safe and containing space in which we can bring to light thoughts, feelings and issues which are sometimes hidden from view but never the less make their presence known in different, and sometime troublesome, ways. By linking your life’s journey to our relationship and our discoveries in the room you can perhaps better understand what is happening in your life. These three aspects can provide insight and understanding of your struggles and enable you to make better decisions about your life. I also work with counselling and psychotherapy trainees as part of their journey into becoming therapists.
Sessions take place in a safe and confidential environment near Rickmansworth. A “well-sealed” container close to a river where your thoughts, feeling and emotions can be expressed freely and openly. I don’t judge but listen to you with empathy and sensitivity.
All of us encounter difficult times in our life that can be hard to comprehend. We may experience depression, anxiety, difficulties in relationships, and lack of purpose in life. Working with me as your therapist can provide you with the tools to better understand and deal with your situation.
By bringing the unconscious and unknown parts of you into the light they will cease to direct your life and you will feel more in control. You will gain insight into your situation and be better equipped to make more realistic life decisions.
People come to me for help for a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that can be supported through counselling:
Problems with confidence or self-esteem
Issues relating to sexuality
Difficulties at work or in retirement
Problems with family or school life
Feelings of stress or anxiety
Grief, loss or bereavement
Problems with addiction
Trauma and post-traumatic stress
I am also an experienced and qualified supervisor providing clinical supervision to counsellors and psychotherapists both as individuals and groups. I work with counsellors of various modalities and levels of experience. I am a member of The British Association of Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Supervisors (BAPPS).
I have had several articles published:
“No Laughing Matter.” In The New Psychotherapist. A I look at humour in the consulting room.
“Anger as a force for change” & “Ehlers-Danlos and Emotional Well-Being” In Fragile Links. A look at the impact on mental health of living with a long-term health condition.
I have given several presentations to both commercial and counselling organisations including Emotional Wellbeing in the Workplace, The Medicalisation of Human suffering, Religion on the Couch, Suicide - a therapist’s perspective.
Should organisations/publications wish me to write an article or engage me as a speaker please make contact.
Sessions last 50 minutes and cost £60 for weekly therapy and for supervision sessions. I also work with people up to three times a week and rates for this can be discussed. I also provide a limited number of spaces at a reduced rate for those on low income. Contact me to enquire about availability. Please note that if you want to cancel an appointment, I require 48 hours’ notice; otherwise, you will still need to pay for any sessions missed. I accept payment in cash, by cheque or by bank transfer.
My room is located at Loudwater Farm, Rickmansworth. A wonderful tranquil location in the beautiful valley of the river Chess – in fact my room is just 20ft away from the river. I am also in easy reach of Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Harrow, Uxbridge and St Albans and just 5 mins from Junction 18 on the M25.
